Written 9/11/2016 - the day Donald Trump won the presidential election.
I'm sitting here without a job
You should go be with a rich man
Someone up in a high place
Someone who makes a lot of money
Someone who wears a suit
A lawyer, banker, a whatever, someone with power
Me, I'm just a dreamer
Yeah the old cliche
I'm the old cliche
You should go for a different cliche
Money, security etc. important to some people?
No, to all people (paraphrasing Adam Sandler's Wedding Singer, don't sue me, fella, here's your credit) Happy! HAPPY !!! Heppie !!!! HEEEEEPPPIEEE !!!!!
Sure, there's no more originality left anymore
I mean, even this poem with no rhyme or no structure
Is not breaking any rules
Is not doing anything new
I even had to nick a line from a film
I'm sitting here listening to Ronnie Hawkins, surely he was a bit original?
But aren't new combinations of old things original?
Will I be original in time?
If I break this poem's own rules and make it rhyme?
No, It has been done before
Oh, we lost the battle, we lost the war
Strange thing though, by the way - I FEEL POWERFUL
